My name is Marin Scott and I created my blog to share some of the positive feminist creations, achievements, and breakthroughs. Especially with the political and social unrest right now, I think it is important to appreciate what has been accomplished to better our society and break down stigmas. While I'm incredibly interested in social justice and international news, I wanted to take a break from that and focus on the positive creations of today. The tampon tax has been widely talked about lately as an unfair revenue stream set against women and their bodies. In order to destigmatize periods and lessen the financial burden on lower-income women, the tax has been removed in many states already. I examined an article by the New York Times and by Feministing, a feminist blog, in order to see how different news outlets are covering this story. Distracify In End the Tampon Tax by New York Times' editorial board , the reader gets a much better understanding of the issue at hand. The article goes into the creation of the movement starting with Californian State Assembly members proposing the bill in the first place. The article then goes into detail of the cost of sanitary supplies such as tampons and pads and the effect the tax has on people. Mosul's girls refuse to go uneducated

This is not necessarily a revolutionary creation in the feminist sphere, but it most definitely is an important step in acheiving equality. Recently in Mosul, Iraq, girls have been fighting to go back to school, and they have accomplished their goal. Despite the fighting in the country, girls and children and general have been striving to establish the importance of their education as for it to not be ignored. I compared an article from the BBC and from Reuters to see how the story was being covered. Marko Djurica/ Reuters In the Reuters article by Ulf Laessing , the focus is on the drive of these girls and their teachers to revive and education system despite the Islamic State control. There are quotes about the old ways of teaching under IS control, as well as a photo slide at the top of the article, but not much else within the writing. The battle on body hair

Within the past year, there has been a long debate on embracing women's body hair. The conversation of shaving or not, feeling comfortable, and fighting stigma of body hair in general. There have been many critics of the "no shave" movements amongst feminists around the world, saying that it is "unladylike". So I looked at an article by Buzzfeed and another by the Huffington post to see how these two news sources are covering the body hair revolution. Photo from Buzzfeed : @howtohairgirl The Huffington Post article by Helana Darwin was more of a typical new story structure. While the Post is not the most conventional news source, it provided a good contrast to the Buzzfeed piece. This piece had no photos and was fairly short. It focused on the ways that men can shave whenever they please with little consequence, and how women are striving for the same choice.
